The timeless essence of the land is overwhelming to me. Perhaps that’s why I rarely put people in my landscape paintings–as creatures, we just don’t seem to measure up. Where my urban/figure paintings suggest a storyline, my landscapes are simply my reaction to the land. I paint what I feel, not necessarily what I see. I move shapes and select colors to express my feelings, though I try to remain true to the scene before me.
