The timeless essence of the land is overwhelming. Perhaps that’s why I rarely include people in my landscape paintings — as creatures, we don’t seem to measure up. Where my urban and figurative paintings suggest a storyline, my landscapes are simply my reaction to the land. I paint what I feel, moving shapes and selecting colors to express my feelings, while remaining true to the scene before me.
